Mr. Cook started his career in the education sector at a private school in Cherry Hill, NJ as a custodian in May 1990. After three years, he was offered the Director of Facilities position which he readily accepted. Mr. Cook served as the Facility Director for 12 more years, during which he attended myriad courses focused on effective supervision and management of facilities.
In August 2005, Mr. Cook was hired at Bellmawr Public Schools as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and has held his current position for 10 years. In 2006, he attended the necessary courses through Rutgers University to obtain his Certified Educational Facilities Manager certification. Even now, he continues to attend related courses to maintain proper certification and to further his education.
In his current role, Mr. Cook is responsible for overseeing nine full-time custodians, two part-time custodians and a full-time maintenance person. Also serving as the District Safety Coordinator, the school district depends on Mr. Cook to ensure that there is always a safe and clean environment throughout the school year.
Mr. Cook’s other responsibilities include Integrated Pest Manager (IPM), Indoor Air Quality Specialist (IAQ), Asbestos Specialist (AHERA), and Right to Know Coordinator (RTK). In addition, he is responsible for keeping all emergency equipment up-to-date and inspected as required. He also ensures that his staff is properly trained in the aforementioned areas as well as Blood Borne Pathogens and the new Global Harmonization System (GHS).
Mr. Cook’s position is incredibly demanding but it is not without its rewards. There is gratification in knowing that he and his team provide a clean and safe environment for all those who use these facilities.
